My Favorite Green Smoothie

There are many green smoothie recipes, and they’re probably all great in their own way. This recipe is my favorite, and I drink it almost every day.

I am sure I have shared a number of dessert recipes in this forum, but I eat a clean diet. Fruits and vegetables are a part of every meal. I eat things like cheese, meat, refined grains, and heavy sauces in moderation. I only indulge in dark chocolate every day. If I don’t eat leafy greens for more than 12 hours, I start hyperventilating. Every once in a while, I enjoy raw chocolate, but whole foods are my favorite.

This green smoothie is a great way to start your day. Ingredients are easy to find and inexpensive: banana, almond milk, flaxseed, spinach, mixed berries, and peanut butter. It literally only takes 2 minutes. It’s great that I can leave the house with three servings of fruits and vegetables in the mornings. This means there is less pressure on me to eat two large salads at lunch and dinner in order to meet my vegetable intake. It’s also full of fiber, has a sweet-salty balance, and keeps me full until lunch. It doesn’t get any better than a green smoothie as a breakfast or mid-afternoon treat.

Although I have tried other types, I still prefer this one because I can add so much spinach without it affecting the taste – which is, by the way, a creamy banana peanut butter shake. Hello, dream smoothie.

Make it your own by experimenting with the ingredients. Try substituting almond butter for the peanut butter. Use coconut milk in place of almonds. Add all blueberries rather than mix. Replace the spinach with another leafy green. Try the original once to see if it doesn’t make you fall in love like I did. I won’t take offense if you choose to make my favorite your favorite. In fact, I’d be delighted. Let’s all be healthy!
